Not much to talk about if we pretend we’ve never resorted to a Sheetrock screw to secure something
You have to do what you have to do 🤷 lol. I’ve done it many times
Definitely
Never used it for a metal box or extension. If it’s stripped, simply use a #8 machine screw instead of the #6. Be careful not to hit the conductors in the box with drywall screws..
If it’s stripped, I check my pouch for a coarse threaded screw. I have also seen many long #6 screws hit conductors🤷♂️ whatever gets the job done..
Just seal it up
I’m more worried about that 3 inch 6/32 !
Final option !
Just opt for double-sided tape. Lol
What concerns me is the depth
🍻
😆😆precisely
I’ve witnessed silicone and caulking being utilized in warranties before, such as WTH. 🤦♂️
It’s even the fine thread! That’s some professional work right there.
If there are any left in my pouch, I’m pretty sure the drywall guys have dropped a bunch on the floor…
Maybe the threads ended up being at the back of the box
That’s what we like to call a long-winded screw!

There are no limits to what we can achieve unless we admit to them. Wealth and poverty are products of the mind. Having money is not the same as earning it. Section 8 is similar to…
It’s something we’ve all done, but it’s still against the rules
You’re right, eorge Coalson. Most of us understand what will be important and what won’t be.
Haha, eorge Coalson, I would never do something like that

Roto zip
Wow, that’s pretty bad in so many ways 😂 he really stabbed it with that much copper sticking out the back, didn’t even hook his ground screw the right way, and didn’t fix the wire messed up by the drywaller 😂 yikes
That belongs to someone else, and one of us is well-off with the money xD haha
That’s just sad
And reverse the polarity, please
Jeremiah rosstueck everything is wrong with this, I didn’t even realize that 😂 100% fail 😂
This is another joke haha
This guy must be new if this is his first encounter with this 😂😂
Totally uilty!
It’s a #6, but there’s more than meets the eye
Requires some water
You must have a great collection of photos to share 😂
I’m putting together a file 🤣🤣
Hahahahahha!!!
You know what I could really use? A 3 inch one.

Well, at least there’s tape on it…
Consider using Caterpillar Spacers Shims (25-Pack)
It would be helpful to have a depth ring.
Just a silly post…. Using a Sheetrock screw in a pinch is no big deal
Eoffrey Askew It’s true for those of us with common sense. But it’s sharp. Same goes for panel cover screws. And unfortunately, some people will think it’s fine to use them and end up damaging wires. I’ve witnessed it multiple times.
Eoffrey Askew If you don’t have the right tools, just go for it! No need to stress.
I break off the tip. It’s fragile.
Eoffrey Askew There’s really no good reason to use a drywall screw anywhere other than in drywall
The threads just don’t seem to want to stick to the yoke, even though you might think stabbing the wires would help. You actually need a few threads in the tapped hole, not just one.
Hey , just a heads up – I use drywall screws to build my MDF speaker boxes. They work perfectly! 😂😂😂😂😂
Cheers!
Whatever gives you peace of mind, man. Like I mentioned before, in a tough situation…
I have to confess, I didn’t realize it was a metal box. I definitely wouldn’t have put it in there. Plastic or fiberglass, without a doubt.
Eoffrey Askew is just being efficient, not causing any harm, and saving time. Can’t have too many wannabe inspectors around here! 😂
Is like the duct tape of screws – there are so many reasons why!
You know, you can save some money by attaching directly to the drywall instead of using boxes! 😆
Return: You know, you can save some money by attaching directly to the drywall instead of using boxes! 😆
Hack
Eoffrey Askew I agree. I’ve resorted to Sheetrock screws a few times. Usually in stripped out fiber/plastic boxes (screws don’t go into the box itself, so sharp points never get close to wire). I never liked using them in metal boxes/rings. They don’t hold well in metal. I always had a tri-tap, which I would expand to an 8/32 if the #6 hole was too damaged. I might have even used a 4 inch screw (with a messed up flat blade slot in the bottom hole though…just for fun. 😎 🤣
Eoffrey Askew just because you’re able to doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.
Eoffrey Askew no exceptions.
If you’re thinking of using sheetrock screws, maybe you should try being a drywaller.
Or I might consider using Sheetrock screws in a pinch. 😉
I’ll always remember that one time I used a Sheetrock screw in a pinch.
Eoffrey Askew, it might technically work, but it’s not the right way to do it, especially considering the bevel of the screw head. It won’t secure the device properly. When dealing with old fiberglass boxes that strip out, you can use a truss head screw with a flat surface instead of the bevel for a much better result.
New to the job?
I would also tap the hole to 8/32 if it’s messed up.
Isn’t that right, ?
Can’t stand it when guys pull this stunt
Well, it’s taped up at least…
That’s okay in a pinch, especially with pvc boxes
Why not just cover it up with some drywall?
No manches, publica algo que realmente valga la pena.
That’s some top-notch work by the installer!
Yep, I’ve completed the task. Nothing interesting here
If it does the job, right?
I really dislike it when I come across situations like this. It’s just a total “Mickey Mouse” job.
C’mon now. You gotta have some 6-32 screws on hand.
Look on the bright side, it’s tamper resistant. So just relax and laugh it off! 😂
It’s actually taped, thank goodness
Why is there a black screw on top?
I only have a few Klein tools, but this one is my favorite – https://www.amazon.ca/Klein-Tools-626-Cushion-rip-Tapping/dp/B000MK08E/ref=sr_1_1?crid=HMHLWS492DU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.9o47NsE2frmWPFqUQggtiqrLDiJrbXr9NbEFj8XMSk7JhId9AFcyflla88M4twyipCo6w1unXerV6x8XWXcUr1b-VTCX7KC4gYt4iM63mPVA-VksTNEWcfduZJuOBgTxzeQn3sYnhv9lqixojNplCBTSeFjURo6u5FJ_1kkhstxq92C8hh9Ws3qYCVYWf2hZ7TyEREyLFUdAq1JRziPqsQn-wEFeBRNWRhwNmANduBDt9HRTsM9qR4YsQr3QWydnafCo8DZ03LkeC9P0YLVsDVks8CItY03WMFamU.p7SiBHTB3xIR013mtr-HE3sw1Em4tgOoX2YHM4rZBFE&dib_tag=se&keywords=klein+tapping+tool&qid=1716938960&sprefix=klein+tap%2Caps%2C339&sr=8-1
Also, sometimes you never know how badly the drywall screw can mess up the threads when using a multi tap from 6/32 to 8/32
I was struggling with money and owed my landlord, but things started looking up when I met Mrs. Laura Andreas. I recommend her to anyone looking for financial help.
I’ve seen this happen more times than I can even count… shakes my head

I’ve seen a lot of these over the years, it’s sad. I wonder why they stopped making taps. 👀

Seriously, who doesn’t have a dog that hunts with a cat! reat job! 👊🏻
I will fire my employees if they resort to using sheetrock screws in a pinch, but we will have to go back and replace it later.
Seems like a jack-of-all-trades to me
Let’s send it out
If it gets the job done, that’s what matters
I don’t quite understand what the problem is… 😳
If needed, I’ll use a tek screw in there 💁🏻♂️
Feeling too lazy to fetch 6-32’s
Or simply didn’t have any and had to get it done

I spot a couple of issues here – the ring isn’t flush with the front of the drywall. You should be using an arc ring and some gators. It’s never a good idea to use a drywall screw; only machine screws are up to code.
I notice issues with your spelling, so I suppose we all notice mistakes. 😳
I suppose I should type instead of dictate, right? Or at least double-check.
Man, I actually did it today
