What’s the best way to fix this problem? We had a water leak on the other side of the bricks, but we took care of it.

What approach did you take to solve the problem?

Miriam Thu

Put on a dust mask, start by scraping and then using a wire brush, clean with TSP. Follow the instructions on the container. Allow it to completely dry before applying paint.

Jordão Peixoto

I would use a wire brush to remove the damaged paint and then find a matching color for repainting.

Keep in mind that bricks are designed to allow for air circulation, so painting them is typically not recommended unless it is for purely aesthetic purposes on an interior wall.

If the issue is outdoors, consider using a power washer.

It’s like bubbling. Calcium or lime seeping through the wall. There’s a specific product (can’t recall the name) that you might be able to locate at a paint shop. Or you could give CLR a shot. Allow it to dry and use a wire brush before painting.
