How should I handle filled expansion joints and edging when resurfacing my driveway with quickcrete?

Has anyone here ever tackled resurfacing concrete before? I’m thinking about giving our old driveway a facelift by pressure washing it and using quickcrete resurfacing concrete to extend its lifespan a bit.

I’ve got a couple of questions:
1. Regarding expansion joints – there’s one that’s intact, but the second one got filled in with crack filler. The area is 65ft x 7ft, with one expansion joint roughly in the middle and the other filled in. Should I chip away at the crack filler, or just smooth everything over?
2. Do I need to put framing along the edge, or can I manage to work with the concrete and use an edging tool to get a clean finish on the edge?

This might be a little tricky, but it’s definitely doable. Ardex has a superior product that you might want to consider. You don’t want to use something that will begin to flake off later on, as it will only make things look worse.
