How should I address the water in my garage- should I invest in a sump pump or try weatherproof paint?

I’m looking for some advice. We’re in NY and got hit with some crazy rain a few weeks ago, and unfortunately our garage (our only one) ended up with a lot of water in it.
In the past year, we’ve only had small puddles, if any, in the spring on one side of the garage.
Do you think we should go with a sump pump or just try to weatherproof the garage wall with weatherproof paint?
We gave flex seal a try on the wall, but the water managed to seep above it. 😑 I’m apprehensive about drilling a hole in the garage for a sump pump. Thanks for any advice!
I need more details: Is the garage below ground level? Where is the water entering? Is the surrounding land sloped towards the garage? Is the water seeping through the floor or coming in from a wall? Adjusting the slope of the ground outside the building can often resolve water issues.
Two important steps to address your issue before installing a sump pump.
1. Check that the soil slopes away from the garage
2. Ensure there are gutters and drain pipes directing water far away from the garage.
Yes, be sure to inspect the grading in the affected area before making a decision
For the best solution, try exterior perimeter drainage first. This involves using items like perforated pipe, fabric, and crushed stone. Sometimes, just having gutters can solve the issue. Only consider fixing from the inside as a last option, especially if you can’t access the exterior.
Hey , thanks a lot for the information! I filmed the perimeter. My husband dug in the flower bed to check for a possible crushed drain, but we weren’t sure if there was one there. Water came in through the bottom of the wall and a bit underneath the garage floor. We attempted to use flex seal, but the water came in above it. There’s a white foam on the wall that easily comes off, we believe it’s Efflorescence.
I agree with Erik, but could you provide more information?
