How far should support arms be spaced for thin floating shelves in a steel frame house with a wood slat attached to studs?

I’m in the early stages of planning some floating shelves for my office/craft room. My desk is around 2200mm long, and I want to have shelves that stretch the entire length of the wall. My house has a steel frame, so I’m thinking of attaching a wooden slat to the studs or wall and then using support arms from there.

I’m wondering how far apart the support arms should be and if this method is the best way to go. I want the shelves to be as slim as possible while still being able to hold some weight. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Every 16”. 3” thick is just about as thin as you can go with a wood support bracket. The sturdiness comes from the board screwed to the wall to prevent twisting. oing thinner than that would require using steel.
