How do you remove wood caulking from drywall that was mistakenly used instead of drywall spackle, and what grit of sandpaper should be used for the job?

Hey, so my friend may have accidentally used wood calking instead of drywall spackle on their drywall. It’s been painted for a year now, but the mistake is pretty visible. Any ideas on how to fix it – should they just sand it down or use drywall spackle? And do you know if a specific grit of sandpaper is needed to get the gunk off? Thanks in advance for any help!
A picture would definitely be helpful!
Exciting news – has been added! 🥳
How does it appear?
If caulking was used by you or your friend to fill a drywall hole/gouge, then I suggest scraping out all the old caulk and patching with spackle.

So, , is that entire area in need of caulking?
You have two options: 1. Cut out the damaged area and replace it with a fresh piece of drywall. 2. Use heavy grit sandpaper, like 40 or 60, to sand down the affected area until it is level with the surrounding wall. After that, spot prime, patch, sand, and repaint the area.
Best of luck!
Apply the pink spackle – it turns white when dry. Fill in with this, lightly sand it, then prime and paint.
Dealing with caulk can be a pain – it tends to melt from the heat, create a mess, and leave a film instead of being removed cleanly. The best approach is to cut it out and then spackle with drywall mud.
For this task, grab a 1-1/2″ metal putty knife or scraper. No need to stress about causing damage, as it can be easily skim coated with all purpose joint compound. You’ll also want to have a good quality 6″ knife, as well as either a 10″ or 12″ drywall knife and a hawk.
That
Add a light….haha
Completely get rid of it and fill the hole with compound, then feather it out
Seems to be a depression. Use non-shrinking spackle to fill it in.
It’s a great location.
Cut a square in the wall, patch it with sheet rock, apply mud, sand it down, and finish with paint.
It’s not called ‘spackle’, it’s actually drywall mud.
Craft a fresh square for a patch, consider it additional practice.
Simply scrape it off, fill it with drywall mud, and then sand it down.
Chip away at it using a jackhammer and make sure to do it properly.
You can try a drywall patch kit. Simply cut out the damaged area and follow the instructions above. It’s a piece of cake.
