How did you overcome the challenges of creating a DIY barn door entryway with a modern design on a budget?
A few years back, I asked for suggestions in this group on how to cover this entryway… most of you recommended a barn door and we eventually agreed that it was the most budget-friendly option. We ended up going with a more modern, yet still simple design in my favorite color. 馃槉 I’m really proud of my husband and myself. This was probably the biggest DIY project we’ve tackled. It’s 52 x 96 inches. We had to completely build it from scratch since that size is almost impossible to find. We used plywood and mdf boards (for lighter weight). I think we spent around $350.
I have to mention, it’s not flawless- at first we didn’t realize the floor wasn’t level and it wouldn’t slide, so we had to take it down and trim it. We also had some trouble making holes for the hardware… since it was mdf, it splintered pretty badly 馃槕 but the bolts cover it up nicely haha and I’m still proud of the end result.
– Huge thanks to Home Depot for cutting down the boards for us and making it easier.
– The color is Thermal by Behr.
– Got the hardware from Amazon.
Now onto the next project! 馃槂

It looks fantastic!
Appreciate it !
Did you get all the hardware, even the track, from Amazon?
Indeed, there’s a brand named Smart Standard. They’re really durable and heavy-duty!
Appreciates it. I’m looking to put a door in the large opening between my family room and kitchen!
I love how amazing it looks! Taking care of our fur babies is the best 馃榿
