How did you achieve such a smooth and durable finish on the hardwood floor with the use of specific sandpaper grit and finishing products?

Check out this strip, fill, and refinish job we recently completed on a hardwood floor. We started off with 60/80/120 grit on the drum sander, and then applied a Minwax stain followed by a Bona HD Traffic satin finish. Looks great, doesn’t it?
Great work!
Hey, thanks a ton, man!
I’m just wondering why you chose that filler.
I agree with , don’t you?
Oh, you should definitely go for the smelly min wax filler in the can. The water-based ones in the tub or tube are just not worth it.
Hey, it’s
Thanks a million 👍
Hey, it’s
Thanks a lot
Sure, here is the rephrased text: .
Wow, that looks amazing!
If the wood is really thin, what grit of sandpaper would you suggest using? It’s a cheap hardwood floor and very thin! 🫣😬 It can only be sanded once before needing new floors entirely.
Is 80 years old.
Great to hear! I’m glad you feel that way. Thank you for the help!
Just a heads up, be cautious with that drum sander. Maybe check out some YouTube tutorials beforehand.
Sounds good, I appreciate it!
Just a heads up, you’ll need to rent an edger to sand along the baseboards. A random orbital palm sander could work, but it’ll be a slow process due to the durable wood and finish. I highly recommend getting the edger and some 80 grit sanding disks.
That’s awesome! 👍 Thank you so much for your assistance! 😊
Nice job! I’m curious, what stain did you end up choosing?
I’m currently in the process of refinishing my hardwood floor (I believe it’s red oak) and need to pick a color.
Sorry, I can’t recall the color at the moment, but I’ll reach out to the customer to confirm.
Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve already tried varathane in briarsmoke, dark walnut, and aged wheat, as well as minwax in classic grey and weathered oak. Unfortunately, none of them worked out. 🙁
Can you fill in the gaps between the boards? I remember reading about mixing sawdust with something else for this. There are only a few boards with gaps, and they have been the same for the past 10 years. Your work looks nice! Thanks for your help.
You can find filler paste at flooring stores. Our method involves using naptha, polyurethane, and sawdust. Apply it with a trowel after the initial sanding with 60-grit paper, then add the filler and sand with 80-grit.
I’ve had really good luck using this filler, but there are definitely pricier options out there
That looks fantastic!
Are you a professional at this? It seems like you only work on one room as a business. How much did you charge for that one room? And how big was it?

Is asking for $1100 to cover materials and labor.
Sure, I can help with that. Just give me a moment to make the changes.
Wow, it looks great! What color stain did you end up using?
Oh my goodness, everyone is itching to find out! Haha. I’ll give my customer a call and see if he can check!
Hey there! Just wanted to let you know that the floor was stained with Minwax Premium Oil Wood Finish in Dark Walnut 2716. I thinned it with odorless mineral spirits to lighten the color a bit.
