How can we solve the problem of a 0.5 inch height difference between our porch posts and available railing options without customizing?
Hey there, everyone!
Exciting news – we just purchased a new home and we’re in the process of finishing up the railing on the front porch. We’re running into a bit of a dilemma though. The gap between the posts is 6’5.5″, but the railings I’ve found only come in lengths of exactly 6′ and are half an inch taller than what we currently have.
I’ll throw in a picture of the porch and a screenshot of the closest product I could find for reference.
If we go with the longer option, there will be a significant height difference (32″ compared to our 27.5″). On the other hand, if we opt for the closer height (28″ to our 27.5″), the 4′ panel is just too short!
Any suggestions on what we can do besides shelling out extra money to have something customized?
Do you have any objections if the balusters were 3/4” square?
If you’re set on wrought iron, try looking for an ornamental iron shop and have them create what you’re looking for.
How about adding a post in the center? Or get a custom piece made at a metal shop.
