How can we safely and effectively fill in and support a large crater in our above ground pool liner to prevent accidents and damage?

We’ve got an above ground pool and we initially thought a mole had burrowed underneath it because there’s this crater in the liner that just keeps getting bigger. Turns out, the skimmer has been leaking between the liner and the pool wall. Ugh, how annoying! The crater is located about 12-14 inches from the edge of the pool.
Any suggestions on how we can fill in or reinforce that weak area once we fix the skimmer issue? Maybe we could try using some expandafoam or something similar to support it from underneath? I’m worried about it being hollow under there and someone accidentally stepping through it, especially with kids around. The crater itself is probably about 12×8 inches and 3-4 inches deep. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
If it were me, I’d drain it and then put solid fill back in.
Let it go. As long as you fixed the leak, it should settle like that. The only other option would be to drain and remove the liner.
Drain it, lift the liner, and add sand to level it out.
