What are some ways you could beef up your Ikea Billy bookshelves to prevent them from sagging down the road?
Avoid purchasing them
How about adding a piece of angle iron to the back or front?
Try running some popular wood underneath the shelves and attaching them from the sides.
I think using angle iron for the back of the shelf is a great idea, especially for sliding it in. But if you’re wondering about this, I’m guessing you don’t have a lot of metal cutting tools or tools in general.
What’s the thickness of the back panel? Maybe you could insert two screws through the back and screw them into each shelf for added support. Essentially, each screw would divide the shelf into thirds.

Try it out
Consider swapping out the shelves for authentic wood, or opt out of purchasing disposable furniture
Make sure to tighten those cam fasteners securely
A vertical 1×2 piece at the back center of every shelf can make a big difference. Begin at the bottom and then proceed upwards to the top shelf.
Avoid purchasing furniture from ikea… moving forward
Duck tape looks like it would work for that stuff
Using wood glue along with screws can reinforce each joint
Why not invest in better quality items instead?
Watch more Netflix, read fewer books
The sagging is a result of inferior design and materials.
Simply slide in some oak planks under the droopy areas.
Bring it to the gym for a couple of weeks 😂
Cut some one bys and place them behind all the bracing
