How can we properly fill and level a 3-inch deep hole in our floor left from removing cabinets and a counter, considering self-leveling concrete as an option?

Hey, I need some advice on how to deal with this hole in our floor. We took out some cabinets and a counter to make room for a hall tree, but turns out the cabinets were actually built into the house and there’s no floor underneath. We’re thinking of using self-leveling concrete to fill it, but it’s about 3 inches deep – do you think that’s too much? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

What are you planning to do with that extra space?

That’s a ton of mud! You’ll need to pour it in lifts or else it might crack. I would use Hardie backer and then possibly self-level the final layer, but not more than an inch thick.

You can use regular concrete if it’s 3 inches deep. Just make sure to prep the old concrete and apply a concrete bonding adhesive.

Clean up the old concrete, then apply a bonding agent before pouring new concrete. Make sure it’s level with the existing concrete.
