How can we prevent our cat from accessing the crawl space leading to the basement?

How can we go about closing or reducing this gap? The towel is just there to prevent the cat from getting into the crawl space that leads to the basement. 😅
I would simply take a board or panel that fits and can be inserted. Just need to cut it to make sure it doesn’t touch the pipes
Fill it with bricks and cement
Remove the cat haha and discreetly place a piece of 1/4” plywood from the plates to the brick to hold the gas pipe in place.
I think I’ll just use urethane foam to fill it up. Fill it one-third full, let it dry, and repeat twice more. Trim off any excess foam, ensuring it is straight and smooth, then apply a couple of heavy coats of paint.
Construct a box
Yep, I completely agree. Just make a few simple cuts, use some nails or screws, and it’s finished!
Wrap insulation around the pipe and then cover it with plastic, securing it with tape. Using plywood is a good option, but it could be challenging around pipes.
There are some good suggestions already. Another option is to use 1/4″ hardware cloth, which might be simpler.
Put a screen on it instead of sealing it completely. The crawlspace requires ventilation.
That expanding foam will help block off that area and harden so the cat can’t pass through.
If I were you, I’d grab a piece of cardboard and create a pattern. You might be able to move it to the left and then back to the right. It’s possible that you’ll require two pieces. After that, use the pattern to cut a piece of plywood. Make sure to add supports where needed.
