How can we ensure we’re prepared before removing carpet from our stairs, considering the potential risks and suitability of bare stairs?

We’re thinking about taking the carpet off our stairs. What should we consider before we go for it? I’ve been reading through some old threads and a lot of people were surprised and unprepared. It seems like not all stairs are meant to be bare. How can we tell?

Most stairs are not meant to be left bare. Try pulling back the carpet to see what’s underneath. And don’t be surprised if you find hardwood treads.

Et ready to find numerous holes, I mean a ton of them. Mostly from the staples used to secure the carpet.

Peek under the carpet to check if it’s hardwood or finished wood. ood luck!

Best of luck! If you ever decide to lift up the carpet on my stairs, you’ll just see wooden boards underneath. Just 2x4s and stuff like that haha 😄

When was the house built? If it’s newer, it probably has plywood treads.

The only stairs I’ve come across made of hardwood are the ones used in a Hollywood staircase.
