How can I update this door on a budget to make it more modern besides painting it white and changing the knob, especially with the sheet metal square?

How can I update this door to give it a more modern look? I’ve already thought about changing the knob and painting it white. But I’m stuck on what to do with the sheet metal square. I’m planning on painting the trim and baseboards white in the whole house, and giving the walls a fresh coat of paint. Unfortunately, we don’t have the budget for a new door at the moment. Thanks for any advice you can give!
If you want to spruce it up a bit, you could always add some wooden appliques to give it a more polished look.
The door is nice, but to blend it in with your modern decor, maybe try painting both the door and vent in the same shade.
Consider swapping out the vent for a more contemporary metal panel. You should be able to find them at a large retail store.
I’m really digging those clean lines on that door. It’s all the rage nowadays. I’ve seen a sleeker vent that’s flush with just a few horizontal lines for better air circulation.
