How can I update my paper blinds on a budget using leftover paint without sacrificing functionality?
I wanted to spruce up my blinds without breaking the bank, so I got creative with some leftover paint I had lying around. I’ve used this paint on fabric before, so I figured it could work on my paper blinds too. Turns out, it did the trick! The blinds still work perfectly and look refreshed.
Just a heads up, my blinds are the honeycomb style with a thick paper insulation lining inside. I gave them a good vacuum and wiped them down with a damp cloth before painting. I used Heirloom Traditions All-in-One paint in the color “Saddle” and thinned it with water (about 3 parts paint to 1 part water). With a thick bristled brush, I painted from top to bottom, making sure to cover the metal frame as well. After the first coat dried, I went back for a second.
I left the blinds hanging in place while I painted, but if you need to, tape off your window frames inside. I only painted the insides of the blinds, and living in dry Arizona, the paint dried super fast. Just a fun and budget-friendly way to give your blinds a new look!
Incredible‼️
That’s really smart! If you hadn’t mentioned that they were painted, we wouldn’t have guessed. It looks fantastic!
Could you share with us how you made it? And which color did you use? I really want to give it a try!
I went ahead and updated the initial post with some instructions.
Adore it!
Wow! I actually use Paint by Heirloom Traditions. I had considered revitalizing my old honeycomb shades for a moment… now, I definitely have to give it a shot. Did the paint make them completely dark, or does a bit of light still come through?
Originally they were completely blackout, but I believe that even if they’re not blackout curtains, they should still let in a little bit of light.
They look fantastic!
