How can I smooth the dried sand quickcrete patio surface to achieve a perfect result like the smooth path I created 3 years ago?
Hey everyone!
So, my initial plan was to give the angle grinder a go because, why not, right? Seemed like it could be fun! 🤣 But, turns out, it was way too tough and risky! I honestly think there should be a class on how to use it without risking your life! The moment I tried it on the stone, it almost flew out of my hand like a catapult – scary stuff! But hey, I decided to give it another shot and then it hit me – it’s called an ANGLE grinder for a reason! So, I tilted it to the side and gave that a try! Result? Flying rock particles that no amount of safety gear could protect me from!
Long story short – never falling for that trick again! It would have taken me forever to do the patio and let’s be real, I’m too much of a “first world problem” kind of person to work that hard! (Just to give you some context, I’ve pretty much built everything on our property except for the roof.)
So, moral of the story – angle grinders are not as cool as they seem! 🤣
But hey, if you’re still reading, here’s the real deal –
You could use Gorilla glue and polyfilla.
I suggest using a diamond grinder to smooth them out before filling in the cracks.
The second one seems to have been affected by rain or a hose. I doubt it can be repaired.
Did you try using a different kind of cement?
Hey , I was actually thinking this
I’ve actually witnessed people sanding concrete before. I’m not sure what they used, but it looked like an angle grinder, possibly with a flap pad.
It seems like it wasn’t smoothed out before it dried or maybe it got rained on before fully drying, as someone else mentioned. Once it’s dry, the only way to smooth it would be to grind it down.
You know, it’s a good idea to use a paint brush to smooth it out before it completely hardens. Usually, after around 5 minutes, it should be fine.
I like to add a bit of dish detergent to my sand mix to make sure it’s wet enough when I put it in the form. I picked up this trick from a guy who creates ornamental concrete pieces.
It looks like it won’t be slippery, which is good!
Hey Pam
You all are amazing! I’m going to give the grinding option a shot. Thanks!
I’ll let you know how it goes once I figure it out!
