How can I secure this when it’s not in use to ensure we don’t accidentally open it?

How can I make sure this stays shut? We never really use it.

Drawer latch

Willard Franklin

Do some welding on it

Joaquín Figueroa

Magnetic latch

Amber Wagner

Removing the 32 layers of paint beforehand would really help in getting it to shut correctly.

Emma Martin

Yes… maybe test out a few of those really powerful magnets. Or a latch hook or the type that has a tiny ‘bar’ attached with a screw & just twist it to lock the door.

Kent Elliott

That has so much paint on it 🙄

Conchita Rosado

Caulk hahaha

Cherly Newman

Bolts

Rolando Barela

Apply another coat of paint

Jose Craig

Ive it a try as a wine chiller

Vanessa Carter

Strong adhesive tape

Jose Craig

Maybe it’s actually a laundry chute?

Amber Wagner

I have to say, if you rarely need to open it, tack welding can be a great solution.

Benjamin Miller

Try using a few of those small twist tabs to secure screens and storm windows.

Taylor Martinez

Consider putting a magnetic cabinet lock on the inside so you can still access it when necessary, but keep it securely closed the rest of the time.

Jack Ruiz

Orilla glue

Bently Morin

Just make sure not to lock it up tight, otherwise those poor gnomes won’t be able to escape!

Ella Richards

Just keep painting over it a total of 27 more times

Elisa Guevara

Yeah, it’s better to use a trowel instead of a brush or roller ,,, pffffff

Ryder Bélanger

Eye hook

Tracy Adams

You can buy magnetic setups for doors of this type

Chad Kelly

Strip off all those layers of paint. Anyone claiming to know what’s inside without actually looking is just guessing.

Elisa Esparza

You could try installing a magnetic closure

Tracy Harrison

That’s exactly what Duct tape was created for

Antonia Ballesteros

O ahead and switch out the latch. Or hey, if you never use it, why not take off the door and frame and cover up the hole?

Violet Carpenter

I sealed mine with gorilla glue. Make sure to sand off the paint from the back and the frame where it makes contact for a smooth fit.

Jayden Anderson

Use duct tape

Chris Pierce

Then put up a picture above it

Jayden Anderson

What was the reason for its existence?

Cristobal Hidalgo

I think this is a laundry chute. You typically drop clothes one by one into a laundry basket in the basement!

Raymond Coleman

I bet there’s a good reason for it being there. Scrape away the excess, use paint remover for the tough spots. The latch should work better once the heavy paint is gone. Then just touch it up with a lighter coat of paint.

Camille Fortin

Use the magnetic closure

Becky Mills

Definitely do not consider renting it out!

Derrick Mason

Ive it a fresh coat of paint like the last few generations have

Alma Galindo

This is the extent of my thoughts on the matter

Donald Lynch

Hahaha, same here!

Carla Pearson

Seal it up

Arthur Berry

Take it out and patch the drywall. I, personally, would opt to keep it and switch out the door

Arthur Berry

The hinges have so much paint on them, which is why it won’t close properly

Gael Roque

Seal it shut with screws or use liquid nails on it

Kyle Wheeler

If it belonged to me, I’d remove that, including the trim. Put in a custom door with new trim. Add a latch style magnet and it’s good to go.

Hans-Joachim Wessels

Latch. Alternatively, repair the door handle. The excessive paint may be causing it to not close correctly

Nathan Williams

Completely remove it and insert a drywall piece instead

Micaela Báez

Are you utilizing it? If not, remove it and patch the hole with drywall. If you are, take it out and replace it with a new one.

Roberta Williams

Velcro adhesive tape.

Edith Prescott

The door typically has a spring in it

Lewis Black

These are cabinet door clips. You’ll want to give any malevolent spirit behind that door a chance to escape, stretch its demonic limbs, maybe do some haunting, and not feel trapped. The clips allow for easy access while keeping the door shut.

Clemente Olvera

A buddy who knows how to weld.

Callum Kuhn

I’ve got one just like this too! It’s the exact same door and yes, it doesn’t close properly. But I still make use of mine!

Theo Sirko

Was this meant for milk delivery?

Loretta Vargas

Do you happen to be the homeowner? You could remove it and put up drywall instead. Or simply seal it shut with super glue if you don’t want to deal with a big hassle.
