Yes… maybe test out a few of those really powerful magnets. Or a latch hook or the type that has a tiny ‘bar’ attached with a screw & just twist it to lock the door.

I have to say, if you rarely need to open it, tack welding can be a great solution.

Consider putting a magnetic cabinet lock on the inside so you can still access it when necessary, but keep it securely closed the rest of the time.

I think this is a laundry chute. You typically drop clothes one by one into a laundry basket in the basement!

I bet there’s a good reason for it being there. Scrape away the excess, use paint remover for the tough spots. The latch should work better once the heavy paint is gone. Then just touch it up with a lighter coat of paint.

Take it out and patch the drywall. I, personally, would opt to keep it and switch out the door

If it belonged to me, I’d remove that, including the trim. Put in a custom door with new trim. Add a latch style magnet and it’s good to go.

These are cabinet door clips. You’ll want to give any malevolent spirit behind that door a chance to escape, stretch its demonic limbs, maybe do some haunting, and not feel trapped. The clips allow for easy access while keeping the door shut.

Do you happen to be the homeowner? You could remove it and put up drywall instead. Or simply seal it shut with super glue if you don’t want to deal with a big hassle.
Drawer latch
Do some welding on it
Magnetic latch
Removing the 32 layers of paint beforehand would really help in getting it to shut correctly.

Yeah, it’s better to use a trowel instead of a brush or roller ,,, pffffff
Eye hook
You can buy magnetic setups for doors of this type
Strip off all those layers of paint. Anyone claiming to know what’s inside without actually looking is just guessing.
You could try installing a magnetic closure
That’s exactly what Duct tape was created for
O ahead and switch out the latch. Or hey, if you never use it, why not take off the door and frame and cover up the hole?
I sealed mine with gorilla glue. Make sure to sand off the paint from the back and the frame where it makes contact for a smooth fit.
Use duct tape
Then put up a picture above it
What was the reason for its existence?
