How can I salvage a very expensive bathroom sink basin that my toddler broke, considering I have no DIY experience and am afraid of making things worse?

Could you clarify what’s broken – is it the marble or the bronze?
Resembles a glass sink basin.
I’m still unable to spot any break
I know, it’s so dark and difficult to see.
Wow, that’s a huge cracked hole.
There’s actually a hole in the bowl
Oh no, there’s a hole in the bowl!
You might be able to hire someone to repair it.
Wealthy individuals are careful with their spending.
That’s the reason they have wealth.
Uh-uh, not at all.
Hey, who brought that fancy sink worth thousands of dollars?
Maybe she already has it in a house she bought. I’ve come across those situations before.
From what I’ve seen, rich people tend to spend a lot of money!
What do you mean?
Has a multi-million dollar home, horses, barns, a million-dollar winter home in Florida on 20 acres, spent $100,000 on new fencing, and even has a horse trailer with living quarters that includes a fireplace. It seems like most people with money tend to spend it.
Wait, is that what you’ve been up to?
Hey, did you know that buying stuff doesn’t actually make you rich? It can actually make you poorer.
It seems like may have owned a home in the past. And remember, when you spend money, you end up with less of it, which can make you feel financially strapped.
Does it look like the sink itself is broken in the photo? It seems to be an Undermount sink attached to quartz or marble, right?
I think you might be able to remove the quartz/marble top and then replace the Undermount sink by gluing a new one in its place. Just remember that Undermount sink cutouts in countertops are usually custom to the specific sink, so you’ll need to get the same model or find one with similar dimensions.
If that doesn’t work, you could visit a countertop store and have them create a new dark quartz or marble top for you with the sink of your choice. They might have some remnants available in their slab yard that could work for you.
Awesome! This is fantastic advice.
That was my exact thought. Taking out the damaged sink might be tough.
You might want to reach out to the manufacturer regarding the possibility of repair, and check if there’s any warranty coverage available.
Ive your toddler a big hug and a treat! Then you can replace it with something nice 👍🏽
Are you referring to the sink or the kid? (Just kidding)
Same goes for both
How disrespectful!!! And not relevant to this discussion, is it?
Relax Sandy, that sink is ugly no matter how you look at it 😂
Not a concern of yours, is it y? And critiquing aesthetics isn’t really the focus of this group, is it funny?
You crack me up 🤪😂
“They said to have kids”….
Honestly, if you don’t absolutely love that sink, I would consider replacing it. A high-priced sink like that should be able to withstand a toddler.
It’s a bit tricky to pinpoint where the damage is in the picture, but whether it’s the marble top or the sink, it can definitely be repaired. et in touch with Custom ranite Kitchens & Baths @ 850-913-0904.
It might be easier for you to visualize, .
Ok, , now I can see it more clearly. Thanks! The reflection was tricking my eyes. You can swap out just the sink, you’ll just need to find the right one. It shouldn’t be hard to get the correct size since it’s oval. I remember we have a black sink similar to this. Is it black or a dark brown? Can you measure the sink cut-out from front to back and side to side?
To replace the sink, the marble top will need to be taken off. I’m not sure about the plumbing arrangement. I assume there’s access behind the stand.
It all depends on how much you’re willing to do yourself. If you’re not really into DIY projects, you can simply color in the chip with a sharpie and seal it with some epoxy. But if you’re a hardcore DIY enthusiast, you could go all out and replace your sink with a custom concrete one!
Right?
Something seems to be missing
This is the reason we can’t have nice things
Ramen noodles
It appears to be an undermount sink, so if the countertop is removable, you should be able to just replace the sink. I hope this suggestion is helpful!
When did you buy it? You might want to reach out to the manufacturer to inquire about replacing just the undermount sink part. It’s possible it’s still under warranty.
The black undermount sink is set on the black stone. The stone sits on the freestanding base. Simple solution. Try finding a black undermount that fits your specifications and get a plumber. It might cost you around $400-$500 for everything.
Hey , maybe not that extensive. That’s what I would suggest.
That sink looks quite unappealing. Who would spend thousands of dollars on it?
Cofer, that was a bit rude! And not really related to the post, is it?
Welcome to the group, !
Well, that was a bit harsh, Cofer.
Have you considered contacting the manufacturer for a replacement of just the undermounted basin?
Cofer, I must say that sink is absolutely stunning. I can picture the rather dull tan/grey/beige/whitewashed home you must already have.
I don’t know, but it was stunning
Maybe try a gold filler on the toddler instead? Not sure if it would work, but it could look cool! 🤣😭😭
This reminds me of the concept of “wabi-sabi”
I think I can repair the bowl for a few hundred dollars
Just grab a bowl that’s about the same size, take out the old one, put in the new one, and then call a plumber👨🔧
Boasting about the cost but looking for a cheap do-it-yourself solution? Lmao.
Ugh, 🙄👎🏻
How tall is your toddler? 🤨
That’s when having insurance would come in handy.
If you can’t find a matching bowl, you could try removing the top and switching them out. Or, you could explore the Japanese technique of using gold/lacquer to fix things.
I think it’s called kintsugi.
I believe the toddler helped you out
Are you really going to spend that much money on a bathroom and then attempt to fix it yourself? It might be better to just spend the money and have it professionally fixed.
Well, that’s not the most aesthetically pleasing sight.
Extremely unattractive.
People spend money on some foolish stuff 💩
If you don’t have anything nice to say, just keep scrolling. I’m sure your preferences are superior to hers 🙄
Russell I definitely wouldn’t have purchased this item for thousands, so yeah
Wow, that was pretty rude of . They weren’t looking for decorating advice.
Is unbelievably impolite!
Did you see calling a sink ugly? Haha
Resembles a baptismal font that would fit perfectly in a othic church.
They mentioned and said it sells for thousands, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they actually paid thousands for it. It’s likely the sink chosen by the home designer during construction. ‘t jump to conclusions when someone is simply seeking advice – focus on helping them fix the issue.
Is doing okay? Things are still looking pretty rough.
Flex seal saves the day once again!
Flex seal and a shamwow? That’s an interesting combination!
Who in the world gave that little kid a hammer?
I personally am a big fan of the sink.
Hey Ayesha, is the undermount sink a separate piece from the countertop? If it is, you could try finding a dark sink in the same size to give it a fresh, unique look. Best of luck! 🙏
Try repairing it like the Japanese do, with a gold ingot. Melt the gold and use it to fill in the crack. This will not only make it look beautiful but also increase the value of the fixture. You can proudly share this story with your family and friends without being ashamed of a subpar epoxy repair.
Not a terrible idea haha, you could search for gold scraps on eBay or even in your own jewelry box
Just a little tip from a mom of 3 – don’t bother buying new when you have kids! ood luck fixing it.
You might be stuck replacing the bowl if it’s different from the basin.
There are repair kits available for marble and granite that can help you fix it. If you have an expensive bathroom, I suggest keeping the door locked to prevent your child from going in there again.
You really splurged on a sink? I once thought a $30 toilet seat was pricey. Why not put that money towards something more worthwhile? Like investing in education for your kids so they understand the value of money and don’t make reckless purchases like a thousand dollar sink.
How can you be certain it wasn’t included with the house? 😂😂
Either way, , they likely paid taxes on the house and also on that sink.
That’s not really their problem, right? They’re not looking to purchase a replacement and are seeking a solution. Just be kind or stay quiet!
I totally agree!
Are you upset?
Is saying “my toddler broke it” the new version of “asking for a friend”? 🤔
Absolutely! I’m just wondering how on earth a toddler managed to break it.
This situation is similar to spending a lot on a dining table and then getting upset when the kids accidentally damage it. Kids will be kids, and it’s not anyone else’s fault. I have two boys of my own and only invested in nice things once they were old enough to respect them. With a sink like that, it’s not really something you can fix on your own. I’ve been working in construction and estimating for new homes for the past 9 years, and repairing that will cost thousands, if it’s even reparable. To be honest, this is one of the reasons why raising kids is so expensive each year.
There are some pretty harsh comments on here. The person didn’t mention buying it for thousands; they said it retails for thousands and they want to prevent further damage. A lot of assumptions are being made. This is unusual for this group.
Anyway, I agree with others that you might be able to remove the top and replace the undermount. It seems to be made of glass??? I wish I could offer more assistance.
Do you happen to know what material it’s made of? Is it glass, marble, or bronze?
Hey everyone, let’s not jump to conclusions about someone’s wealth based on just one expensive possession.
I personally own some valuable items, but I am by no means wealthy! I’ve come across some incredible thrifted pieces that have a high retail value but were purchased for a fraction of the cost. These items have sentimental value to me. Also, there are inheritance pieces that may be expensive, but they were paid for by someone else. Some items were already in the house when I bought it. Just because someone else splurged on them doesn’t mean I could afford to do the same.
You know, I actually think that sink looks pretty awesome. I really hope you’re able to get it fixed! I love a unique style.
Looks like you need to install a new under-mount sink. It appears to be a marble top with an under-mount sink. Should be manageable.
Joined this group recently and already noticing the rudeness and overreactions to The Rude… Questionable behavior 🙄
The person never mentioned buying it themselves- so why does it matter how expensive it is? Shouldn’t we be here to support each other?
And who are you to assume they can afford to pay someone to fix it? You can’t afford to fix your own ugly responses & useless “input” 🙄🤮
If it’s that expensive, I recommend calling a professional instead of attempting a DIY fix.
Looks like the sink is mounted underneath. There must be a way to disassemble the base stand and replace the sink, or remove the countertop and install a new one. I suggest hiring someone to avoid damaging the countertop.
It appears to be an under-mount sink, so a good contractor or plumber can help remove the top and replace the sink. Start looking for a new sink now, as it may take some time to find the perfect one. A hammered metal sink would be a great choice for the vanity.
Use JB Weld to fix that.
Based on personal experience with DIY fixes, there’s a 50/50 chance it will look the same as before. Check out marketplaces for possible replacement parts. If the sink is still in production, contact the manufacturer to inquire about potential defects. Sometimes it’s best to hire a professional to avoid making the situation worse.
My toddlers never seem to grasp the concept of the price difference between a $20.00 item and a $2000.00 item. Kids, right? Keep a list of damages and present them with a bill when they turn 30. Consider hiring a professional to replace the sink.
Oh my gosh, that would be so funny 🤣 Just jot down all the broken items in a little notebook.
