How can I repair the corner drywall my puppies chewed before continuing with my stairway renovation project?

Hey there! So, I was getting my stairway ready for some new cap a tread and high traffic carpet, or maybe just high traffic carpet, when two of my pups decided to snack on a corner of the drywall! Any tips on fixing it before I move on to laying down the skirt and working on the stairs?
I was thinking of cutting out the damaged section and replacing it with a new rectangular piece of drywall, possibly adding some metal framing to the chewed-off corner. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks a bunch in advance!
You could use a large putty knife to fill it in, considering the size of the baseboard.
Just use some hot mud and you’re good to go. No cutting necessary. If the base is large enough, you may not need to do anything.
Just fill it up with some mud. No need for cutting with a mud knife, mud, sanding block, paint, and some elbow grease 💪🏾
Mudddddd
As others have mentioned, using joint compound should work well. You may need to apply multiple layers depending on the depth of the repair. Alternatively, you could enlist the help of a dog to fix it as a fun learning opportunity. 🙂
Translation: When I say “mud,” I’m referring to a setting type joint compound. I wouldn’t suggest using joint compound from a plastic tub or “spackle” for this particular repair. Instead, I opt for “Durabond” mixed to a stiff texture as it adheres better, doesn’t contract, and can be spread in thicker coats.
As long as the skirt board is in place, it should hide it unless your idea of a skirt board is different.
There wasn’t a baseboard to begin with, it was just carpeted. I was considering adding skirting, but now I’m not so sure… Should the skirting seamlessly connect with the trim?
Those can be quite tricky to work with.
Thank you everyone!
I wonder why the pups are munching on drywall. I’m not a dog parent, but that doesn’t sound right. Shouldn’t they have chew toys or something?
