I’ve got a bathroom upstairs that’s causing some water to leak down into the bathroom on the first floor. Any ideas on how I can fix this issue?
The first step is pinpointing where the leak is originating from.
Have you figured out where the leak is coming from?
Start by examining the area directly beneath the bathtub drain for any issues. This could be a good starting point.
It might be due to children spilling water from the tub, or it could be related to the toilet seal, supply valve, mixing valve, or shower stub. There are several possibilities, and more information is needed. How long has the stain been visible? Is it still damp? Does it worsen with specific fixtures? Is there an access panel behind the shower wall? Start by checking there. Measure the stain’s location in relation to potential water sources in the bathroom. It might require professional help rather than a DIY approach.
You should consider cutting a hole in the drywall near the water damage to address the issue and then identify the source of the water.
Try to determine the source of the water. Is it a constant flow or only when the tub is being drained?
To start, cut a hole and fill the tub. Then, test the shower. Some leaks may be small – just a drop every ten minutes – but they can accumulate to gallons over time.
