How can I properly install door casing to make it look good on a door that is protruding 3/4 inch from the drywall?

Is it standing tall at full height? The frame might be too big for the opening. Is it only sticking out at the top or bottom? It was probably hung straight on a crooked wall. Either way, you can trim the frame to be even with the drywall to mount the casing correctly.
Hey, since it’s an exterior door, it’s flush with the inside of the jamb. Trying to cut back the jamb without repositioning the hinges and changing the strike plate would require moving the weather stripping too, so that’s not a great plan. For now, pack the trim at the back to align with the back edge.
Oh yeah, I didn’t notice it was talking about the exterior. It would definitely take some effort on the hinge side. I don’t think shifting the casing slightly would be a good idea. If I were him, I’d rather just get a new door.
I’d cut a piece of trim that is the same width as the casing, about 3/4 inches wide. Then I’d attach the trim and put the casing on top.
Needs to make sure his width matches the casing to avoid any issues. Just subtract the thickness of the jamb stock from the casing width.
If the jamb sticks out 3/4” from the wall, attach a 3/4” board to the back of your casing and install it as intended. It’s okay to use a different type of wood if you’re painting the trim, but if you’re staining it, make sure to match the wood species.
Oh man, I’m an expert when it comes to installing entry doors! I always make sure to reinstall the door first before moving on to anything else.
Can you put the door back in place?
What does the other side look like if it’s sticking out 3/4 inch on one side? It seems like the door frame is too wide for the wall. You’ll need the right dimensions to fix it. ood luck!
