How can I properly finish my DIY home project that started with popcorn ceiling removal and has now expanded to include drywall taping, skim coating, and potentially replacing the floors?
I could really use some help and advice on finishing up this DIY home project I’ve been working on. I’ve hit a bit of a roadblock and I don’t really have anyone to turn to for guidance. My family has been getting a good laugh out of the fact that they never would have even attempted something like this in the first place 😄
It all started with the goal of removing the popcorn ceiling to smooth it out and paint the walls. But now that the popcorn is gone, there are gaps between the walls and ceiling that need to be addressed. It seems like the best way to fix this is by taping the gaps with drywall tape, which will involve smoothing drywall on the upper parts of the walls (which are textured with an orange peel finish). Rather than just reapplying the texture, I thought it would be a good idea to take the extra time and effort to skim coat the walls for a smoother finish. So we went ahead and removed the trim. But now that the trim is off, I’m starting to think that maybe we should replace the floors as well, since there are a lot of gaps between the floor and walls from previous mis-cuts. The problem is, the flooring is discontinued and
You’re doing great! Keep going by getting rid of the popcorn ceiling, making any needed drywall repairs, priming the drywall, and then hiring a local texture company to spray texture all in one day. After priming again, it’s time to paint everything and you’ll be all set!
Choose one task to complete at a time. Once you finish that one, move on to the next. Sometimes, it can feel like too much if you don’t complete things here and there. Decide on a plan for finishing a task, and then follow through with it.
Here we go… Best of luck!
