How can I properly address cracks in the mortar of my 1940s home caused by water issues during grading?

Hey everyone,

I’m getting some work done on my 1940s house due to water problems. We’ve noticed that the mortar is cracking where the soil is covered. Any advice on how to handle this?

If you’re going to cover it with back fill, make sure to use a parge coat.

Nodded in agreement. Another option is to re-point it yourself. It’s actually quite simple to do.

Re-pointing can be quite a chore for me, especially if it’s just going to end up concealed.

I feel you on that struggle

That might be the more effective way to fix it

Time to grab your trowel and match it
