“How can I lighten the color of my shower walls for a remodel, can I simply paint over them, or are there other options available?”

Hey there, I’m a newbie in the home-buying game and I’m thinking about sprucing up my shower walls. I’m not really feeling the dark color, so I’m wondering if I can just paint over it to lighten things up. Or are there other options I should consider to achieve a lighter look? I’ve attached a photo of my current shower for reference. Thank you!
I would advise against painting tile since it typically doesn’t hold up well. Plus, painting it would eliminate the unique tile variations. To achieve the desired look from the first picture, it’s best to remove the existing tile and install new tile instead
Consider incorporating additional lighting.

That sounds like a total renovation from scratch.
This is potentially a 10-15k project, involving tearing down to the studs and reconstructing. Consider if you truly want to invest that much money, or if you can live with the current setup.
If you want the marble look, you’ll need to completely demo the shower for new tile. Your most cost-effective choice is to reglaze it with a solid color. It may smell for a few days but it’s not too difficult to do.
