How can I install a washer outlet box in a house without a dedicated spot due to horizontal pipes and sewer gas concerns in Washington State using PEX A?
Hey everyone! So, I’ve come across a little dilemma while working on the house. Turns out there wasn’t a washer outlet box already in place. The issue is that one of the horizontal pipes is getting in the way of me installing the washer outlet box above. I thought about using a double tee, but I’m concerned about sewer gases possibly entering from the left. Another idea I had was to add a 45-degree bend and install the box below the horizontal pipe, but I’m worried that it might end up being too low and causing the drain pipe to overflow. One more option is to install the washer box above and just leave the drain where it is, even if it doesn’t look great. If anyone has any tips or tricks to share, I’d really appreciate it! Thanks in advance for any help! Just some extra info – I’m using PEX A, the washer box is PEX A with a drain hole, the washer is currently on a pedestal but we might switch to a front loader eventually, the standpipe is currently at 24” from the P Trap and 36” from the floor, and this is all in Washington state.
The easiest way to install is down below. Make sure to look at the washer installation guide for the minimum height requirement. I installed one where the drain hose should not be lower than 29″.
Can we move it a bit to center the box? Also, why PEX A instead of B in the picture? Do you have an expansion tool?
Why not try using 45s or 22s to adjust its position? The minimum stand pipe height needed is 18″, and remember the trap should be placed 6″ above the base.
Simply elevate the vent pipes and use 22.5s to establish a connection between the box and the washer drain.
Invest in a higher-quality washer box that comes with three holes, similar to the drain in the middle. This will allow you to shift the drain to the side. Install it beneath the abs vent and you’re all set!
Forget what I said before. Try turning it upside down!!!! The drain will then be on the right side. The water holes and knockouts are already there. All set!
Hey, consider purchasing a more modular box. Make sure to get the left side as it will be on the other side of the Sheetrock. Haha.
Oatey brand is available at Home Depot or Lowe’s.
Flip the box over, utilize the connector in the right corner to prevent any bends in the washer drain. Adjust the position of the vent to ensure it is out of the way. Replace the four-way Union with a street T, and acquire a second street T for the vent that you are raising above the box.
They suggest that standpipes should be placed 30-36” above the floor. This measurement takes into account the height of the collar in the box, so you can install it just below that horizontal pipe.
Let’s shift everything up, it’s too low as it is.
