How can I hinge my baby gate on the foyer side or on the inside of the doorway to create a decorative solution for my dogs?
So I’m working on making two “baby gates” similar to the one in the picture to go in the big open doorway from the foyer to the mudroom (which used to be a garage, I had to fix up their mess after I bought it). This is so I can create a space for my dogs when we’re not home and keep them out of that area when we are, unless it’s meal time for them. Both dogs are boys, one isn’t neutered yet but will be when he’s ready. He’s marking territory, so the gates are a cute removable solution.
Here’s my dilemma – I want to attach the gates to the foyer side or on the inside of the doorway, like on the smooth inner part of the door frame. That’s my preference, but I can’t figure out the right kind of hinge to make that work. Any fence or deck builders out there know what I should be looking for? Maybe an inside post hinge or something? I’m having a hard time with this.
Or should I change out the trim on the foyer side to flat stock and just use regular decorative hinges there? If I do switch out the casing, should I also swap the casing around the front entry door and the
I decided to make mine into a sliding gate to separate my living room from the dining area for my furry friends (I started with one dog and now I have two. I constructed a track on the wall for it to slide on. It’s equipped with wheels for easy movement.
That’s a fantastic suggestion but unfortunately, I lack the wall space to hang it. 😕
I used to have a sofa in front of it, so I made sure to leave enough space for it to pass behind.
I’m not sure if this will be useful, but I created this to contain our dogs downstairs when we’re away (or upstairs when we want them out of our way! Haha). I utilized a gate hardware kit with toggle bolts.
Berzinskas, that really does make a big difference.
Do you happen to have any plans for that gate? It’s the one I want to put at the end of my hallway porch for my dogs. I’m thinking that with the inside gates, I might not need it after all.
I don’t have any concrete plans besides the sketch I made before starting the project. I gathered inspiration from Pinterest and used my measurements to bring it to life. I enjoy working with pallet wood, and I’m thrilled with the end result! I did have to remove a trim piece on the left to make the opening fit better, as our builder doesn’t seem to know what square is when it comes to walls and such 🙄. Overall, it was a pretty simple process.
Do you think a piano hinge could be a good option for you?
I’m not sure if could handle the weight.
Hey , if you’re putting it into a sturdy surface, it might be effective for you with a longer screw of the correct size.
You’re right, . In my opinion, it just seems a bit weak.
Got it, thanks for clarifying.
