How can I fix this issue with my Old English furniture polish coming off when cleaned with water?

Is there a way to fix that? I tried using Old English, but it came off when I cleaned it with water.

Hey there, the color of mine was actually just oil-based poly with no stain.
It’s difficult to determine from a photo, but Home Depot offers a brochure with color samples of Minwax gel stains. Pick one up and compare it to your wood instead of purchasing multiple cans and potentially having to return the ones you don’t use.

Take the drawer to a nearby Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams store and ask them to match the stain. Gel stain might not be the best choice since it only stays on the surface. If you decide to use it, make sure to apply a clear coat to seal it. The ideal solution would be to mix some clear poly with about 3% of the stain and brush it on – this process is called toning and it’s the most effective method.
