Hey, do you have any thoughts on fixing this corner? The metal strip underneath seems to have some bumps. Should I just go ahead and replace them?

Absolutely! Purchase a new corner bead. Remove the old one and put in the new one.

Remove it and swap in a plastic one, then cover it with the new 3m blue spackle that changes color when dry. Sand if necessary, then paint.

Attach a fresh metal corner bead and apply a layer of polymer modified thinset. You also have the option to adhere the bead using the thinset. Much more durable than drywall mud.

Take out the old and put in the new…

You should definitely save yourself the trouble and get rid of all that chaos. Trying to clean up the mess will just lead to a difficult struggle. It’s obvious this wall corner takes a lot of hits, so I would recommend sticking with the metal corner.

Why not consider using wood that can be stained to blend in with the current trim?

Tanya Welch

I know it sounds wild, but I decided to scrape off the drywall compound from the metal corner, gave it a good sanding, and then applied primer and paint. It’s been 4 years and there are still no chips. It’s definitely better than having the drywall mud constantly chip off the corner.
