How can I ensure constant power to a TV outlet in my enclosed outdoor patio, and what electrical code requirements should I consider for this project?
I’m planning on putting up a TV mount in my outdoor patio/room and want to add an outlet for the TV. I need some ideas on the electrical side of things and guidance on Virginia Code since I might not have access to power all the time.
My patio is enclosed with an Eze-Breeze system, so water exposure is unlikely. I haven’t taken down the soffit yet, but I assume any electrical wiring will be connected to a wall switch since I only have recessed lights and a fan. My plan is to use the closest light source for power and get lights that I can control with an app, so I can turn them off while the switch stays on. I’d rather not resort to using a converter to plug the TV into a recessed light.
I have a few questions:
What’s the best way to ensure the TV outlet has constant power?
If that’s not possible, can I reconfigure some of the light switches and wiring?
Do I need to use an outdoor weatherproof box? Which NEC/State codes should I follow for this?
Also, I’ll be getting rid of the switch for the Backyard Floods since I need to hardwire them for the Ring Camera Floods. This will
You should start by checking if there is a neutral wire in the box alongside those switches. Without a neutral wire, there won’t be a constant power.
Hey , I’ll check it out after I open it up. Currently, I’m figuring out how to remove a section of the soffit without starting from the end and taking down all of them. I don’t think it will be consistent, judging by what’s on the patio.
