How can I enhance the appearance of my fireplace wall without using paint, possibly using German Smear on the mortar lines and mineral oil on the stones?

I’m looking for ideas on how to spruce up the mortar lines and bring out the brightness of the stones on my fireplace wall. It’s kind of dull right now and I don’t want to paint it. I was thinking about trying German Smear on the mortar lines and maybe mineral oil on the stones. Has anyone tried this or have any other suggestions? Just to clarify, I want to keep the rocks as they are.
Will the wet look achieve the desired outcome? If yes, a sealer might be the solution. Just ensure it is safe for the fireplace heat😉 It might also help to give them a thorough scrub rather than just vacuuming them…..🤷
Applying a potent bleach (concentrated) on the rocks won’t alter their color, but the mortar will lighten. Once dry, seal it with masonry sealer. Test a small area first to see if you like the result
