How can I efficiently redesign my shallow closet with shelves that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing?

I’m brainstorming ways to revamp my closet with shelves. The tricky part is that the top is open to the ceiling, but the closet is pretty shallow. Do you think it would be odd to widen the closet opening? Or do you have any suggestions for adding shelves that are functional and not just awkwardly there? Hopefully that all makes sense, thanks for any advice!
‘t worry, it’s all sorted out for you. You can easily find one at Menards, Home Depot, Lowe’s, or even Amazon. A closet organizer can be customized to fit your requirements. Just provide the measurements for the height, width, and depth of the closet to begin.
We used to have a similar closet in my daughter’s room, with a narrow 24” door but a spacious 7-foot interior. Unfortunately, she couldn’t reach anything inside. So, we decided to reframe the opening, install 5 ft wide french doors, and set up the Ikea PAX system. The difference in organization was incredible, and we did all the work ourselves.

I set this up for my 10-year-old daughter. We used baskets in the bottom shelves for dirty clothes, while the upper shelves were for toys. In the middle drawers, we stored items like socks, underwear, and pajamas. Long clothes were hung on one side, and short clothes on the other.
Thanks a lot for sharing!
I purchased a closet organizer from Amazon for my closet
They also offer options with additional shelves
A good approach would be to start by thinking about what items you plan to store up there. This way, you can determine the type of access that would work best for your needs.
You might want to consider keeping the shelf you already have (as it allows for stacking up high if necessary) and then adding additional ones on each side for more storage options 😃
