How can I effectively remove two layers of paint from wood trim without using chemicals to return it to its original wood stain?

I really want to get this trim back to its original wood stain, or as close as possible, but it’s got a couple of layers of paint on it. I know it’s gonna be a big job, but is there anything that could help make it easier? I gave paint thinner a shot, but it just ended up dripping down the wall. I’d prefer to do it without using any chemicals if possible.
For chemical assistance, consider purchasing the paint stripping gel instead of the liquid.
The heat gun was a huge help! I used it to strip the entire house. Just remember to wear a mask because the fumes could be harmful.
Take out the board, run it through a planer, and then put it back in place
You could consider using Citrus Strip, but there is also one from dumond
I totally agree with the suggestion to use Citrus Strip
If you don’t want to use chemicals like Citristrip, your best bet is scraping the paint off manually since it takes forever otherwise.
When I used a heat gun to strip the paint off my doors, it made the paint come off in big chunks.
I love using a heat gun to remove paint from old doors and frames, it’s so therapeutic.
If it’s an older home, watch out for lead paint
I got some new trim
Hey, have you seen that scrapper attachment for the multi tool and the heat gun?
It’s a given that you have lead paint. Consider testing if you want, but be mindful of the presence of lead. Infrared heaters are said to be more effective with lead paint compared to heat guns. Alternatively, try using the peel away paper stripper used on This Old House for door frames with lead paint.
I had the city test it and it came back negative. But yeah, my house definitely has lead paint in different areas.
I wouldn’t count on that. Your doors and frames look pretty old and have multiple layers. You can buy lead tests yourself. Just be cautious. Even if there might be a chance of lead-free spots, it’s better to assume everything has it in that house. Best of luck! I have some woodwork chips in my kitchen and can see that same dark varnished wood under layers of white and yellow. The paint on my living room and office woodwork is so thick and drippy that I’m planning to strip it next spring when I can open some windows for ventilation. An infrared stripper is on my wishlist!
Have you checked if you can get new trim in a similar style? Staining new trim can save you a lot of time compared to stripping, scraping, sanding, and restaining the original trim.
Make sure to get a lead test done first. If there is lead, avoid using heat guns and scraping, and opt for a chemical stripper for safety.
You can find Citristrip at Home Depot. I have personally used it multiple times and it works great.
