How can I effectively paint and change the dining room table texture while planning to reupholster the seats?

I’m thinking about painting or changing our dining room table, but I’m not sure how to tackle it with the texture it has. I’m also planning on reupholstering the seats. Any suggestions or tips you can share? Thanks so much!

If the surface is shiny, make sure to strip it off first. For a more rustic look, consider painting and sanding multiple layers and colors to achieve a less perfect finish. Once you’re finished, seal it with a high-quality varnish.

You’re welcome, !

My coffee table has a similar grain, with boards of different colors that have a faded washout look. It originally came like that, but I might consider taking a picture.

Rebecca Elnes

It’s been around for a while, so some of the colors have faded

Nanna Poulsen

Wow, that’s awesome! Thanks a lot!

I used a wood grain tool to paint my table grey and then white. This technique could also work well for your table.

I appreciate your help!

How about placing a glass plastic on top to display the patina?

To paint it all, first you need to clean it, sand it, prime it, and then paint it. Just keep in mind it may not end up completely smooth and might still have some distressed marks.

Nanna Poulsen

I really appreciate that! I didn’t think of it myself, but I must have liked it back then 🤦‍♀️

Ricardo Gómez

Haha, , I totally understand. You’re welcome!

Be careful, that’s quarter sawn oak!

Apply 2-3 coats of Polystain gently.
