How can I effectively address mold and wood rot issues in my home?

Do you have any advice on how to address this mold and wood rot issue?
They sell mold remover at Lowe’s and Home Depot. You might want to consider using a strong scrubbing tool like a scrub daddy with it. ‘t forget to wear gloves and a mask. Alternatively, you can use Kills and paint over it, but it’s recommended to first try killing it with mold killer using a spray bottle and then wiping it down.
Thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely follow that. We’ll deal with replacing the board later on because right now I have no clue how to go about it.
When you’re ready to remove it, you’ll need an oscillating tool to cut it out. Make sure to glove up and wear a mask.
I was 37 weeks pregnant when I had my fiancé check it out first. He hand sanded it away completely. Now we’re planning to Kilz it and then lay down a rubber mat!
Great work, and congratulations on reaching 37 weeks!🎊
That situation needs to be remediated as soon as possible to prevent regrowth and the spread of spores. Black mold is very dangerous, so it’s important to address it promptly.
I wouldn’t recommend attempting to clean that area. It could just end up spreading more spores into the air, which will then land on other surfaces in your home. Instead, cover the cabinet with plastic, gear up with a mask, respirator, gloves, and a suit, crawl under there, cut out the affected area, bag it, dispose of it, and then treat the surrounding surfaces with a Concrobium product. Finally, replace what was removed.
My fiancé simply sanded it by hand. I’m not sure if he wore a mask because I was away from home (due to pregnancy), but now it looks almost new! We’re planning to apply Kilz and place a rubber mat on it
I really liked hearing that you left the house. I’m pretty sure he disturbed the spores, causing them to float around and settle on new surfaces.
Mold needs three things to thrive: spores (which you clearly have), a surface to grow on (like the materials in homes), and moisture (which a leaky cabinet provides). Inactive mold spores are not as harmful to people, so the goal is to keep them inactive. You can’t eliminate #1 or #2, but you can try to eliminate #3. Keep it as dry as possible, and mold spores won’t have the conditions they need to grow.
I would recommend spraying a concrobium product inside that cabinet. Here’s what Kilz and Zinnser’s Mold and Mildew Primer do: they seal the surface they are applied to. The Zinnser label specifies that it only works on non-porous surfaces (like glass, tile, metal). Porous surfaces still allow mold to penetrate to the other side.
While you’re creating a barrier between yourself and the mold, active mold could still be damaging the floor and walls of your cabinet and spreading to whatever is behind it.
Your best bet is to keep it dry.
Bleach. Completed
Just so you know, bleach doesn’t eliminate black mold. End of story.
Haha 😂 I’m not going to debate with you
Hey , did you know that mold killer can be either vinegar or peroxide?
Hey , you’re mistaken. Sodium hypochlorite, look it up, buddy!
Hey, , did you know that professionals use high power peroxide that can melt skin on contact?
