How can I determine the correct cartridge needed for my shower installation without the help of the handyman who guided us on Amazon?

Hey there! Looking for some advice on plumbing. We had a handyman set up a shower for us, and he pointed us to the right parts on Amazon for the rough installation. But it looks like we might be missing some pieces (like the cartridge not coming with the trim?). How can I figure out which cartridge I need, and is there anything else I should be aware of? Trying to get this bathroom sorted before my daughter heads back to school, and I’m pretty clueless when it comes to plumbing. 😢
Unfortunately, our handyman had a family emergency and is no longer available to help. Thanks in advance for any tips!
If the trim is missing, it may have been purchased separately. Different options are available, such as thermostatic or pressure balance.
The valve labeled as the r10000 is included.
Consider hiring a professional plumber for future installations. You can find the correct Delta T13220 Classic Monitor 13 Series Shower Trim at https://www.supplyhouse.com/Delta-T13220-Classic-Monitor-13-Series-Shower-Trim
The trim you have is not the right one. This valve is specifically for a delta valve.
This is the essential information you’re looking for
The d14 trims come with the cartridge included, super convenient!
Hey , I heard that Delta makes Peerless, which used to be a store brand for Lowes. But they have the same internals.
Hey , I had a feeling it was the same one, it really does look like it’s from the same manufacturer.
It’s a good idea to call a plumber to complete the installation so that you can benefit from the warranty.
Mentioned that professionals typically do not warranty work completed by others, based on her 22 years of experience in the trades.
Sounded like the valve still needs to be installed – a plumber will take care of it. If any errors were made by a handyman, the plumber will correct them, but there may be an extra cost. Personally, I prefer working with professional tradespeople. I often see issues arise after a homeowner or handyman attempts a task they weren’t prepared for.
Confirmed that the valve is indeed installed behind the shower wall. The RP46074 seems to be the correct cartridge required.
When you visit the website, it should provide information on which trim is compatible with the valve.
The trim seems to be incompatible.
As a plumber, I’ve noticed that most cartridges are specific to certain brands. However, you seem to have one that is different – I think it’s the delta valve. There are only two variations for those body styles: blue or white. One is longer than the other. If your handyman is not aware of this, it’s likely he lacks experience. I suggest replacing him with a qualified plumber. He may be using subpar products like shark bites, which can lead to issues in the future.
I think is unaware. He installed two shower walls and the valve, but unfortunately had to deal with a family emergency and is no longer able to help. 😕
It’s worth noting that the cartridge has separate hot and cold sides, so if it’s installed incorrectly, the hot and cold water will be reversed.
Hey Jarrod, thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge with me. Just so you know, I went ahead and ordered the grey one yesterday. Fingers crossed it’s the right one! 🤞
Trying to save money by not hiring a plumber. Opted for a handyman instead and now seeking plumbing advice. Not ideal.
Got it. Thanks for the helpful DIY advice from .
Pointed out that hiring Handy Andy is not the same as DIY. If you were handling the project on your own, I could offer some helpful advice.
