How can I deal with a protruding piece of wood in my kitchen during renovations without affecting the plastering process?

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to give you a quick update on the kitchen renovation. I’m taking on most of the work myself, except for the electrical and plastering stuff.
I’ve already taken out the cabinets and tiles, and found a little surprise – there was a cabinet hiding under the stair bulkhead in one corner. After removing it, there’s a piece of wood on the wall that’s halfway sticking out and halfway flush. I think I can trim the protruding part.
The whole kitchen is getting a fresh plaster job, but I’m a bit concerned about this wood sticking out. I’m not sure if plaster can go over it without causing problems.
Has anyone else run into this issue before, or have any suggestions on how to handle it?
Thanks a bunch in advance!
Do you think there are stairs behind that wall? It looks like a stair stringer
: Yep, that’s right.
Anonymous contributor: Nope, you can’t cut it. You’ll need to fur out the wall to make it match.
Anonymous contributor: Hey, if there’s a wall under the stair stringers, you could probably use a multi-tool to cut that 1/2 inch of wood sticking out. The plasterer can then easily plaster over it. Are you planning to put cabinets there?
