How can I cover up the chunky plastery evil eye in my stairwell before selling my house, considering its potential ghost-repelling properties?

Check out this interesting piece in our stairwell to the basement. It’s a big, chunky, plaster section with an evil eye painted on it. I even included a close-up so you can see all the texture. Not sure why someone would do this, but as we get ready to sell our house, I think it’s probably best to cover it up (unless it’s actually keeping ghosts away 😜).
I have no clue how to tackle this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
It might be a good idea to cut out the damaged drywall and replace it (if I were interested in buying your house, I would request that this be done).
Na Wells, you wouldn’t believe how much I’ve picked up from this house. It was sold “as is” though… I doubt they would have made any changes.
Is right, let’s hope this property doesn’t require any costly fixes! The drywall replacement for that odd “eye thing” shouldn’t be too bad – make sure to snap some photos of your renovations. I’m positive you’ll have some great advice to share with the group!
I’m not much help in replacing it, but I believe it’s not an evil eye, rather a badly executed Brazilian flag. The colors and shapes seem to align. So now you can relax about warding off any spirits.. well, maybe you still need to, but it’s not because of the graffiti 😜
I have no comment on this.
Was just double-checking to see if someone had mentioned this already!
Hey , I was actually going to say the exact same thing!
You could try sanding down the texture and using a non-water based stain-blocking primer
Try sanding it down or giving it a more thorough skim
Is this in the house you currently have or the house you’re in the process of buying? It seems like someone messed up the drywall, tried to fix it, and failed… and then thought it would be a good idea to paint the Brazilian flag over the poorly done patch job. I suggest starting by trying to scrape off the texture… if it’s drywall mud and unpainted, it might be possible to soften it with water to make scraping easier. The green part seems like crayon… if that’s the case, using a warm iron and paper towel could help remove the crayon wax. Alternatively, you could sand it smooth and repaint it white.
The house we own now…it has a basement! I suppose I just didn’t mind 🤷
Smooth out the sanding and give it a fresh coat of paint
Smooth down the surface, vacuum up the dust, apply primer and paint to match the rest of the walls or do the entire walls.
If you don’t have the right vacuum setup, sanding would be a mess. It’s best to remove and replace it.
You’re going to be best friends with a razor scraper soon 😅. Wishing you the best of luck!
Mist it with water and grab a 6-inch drywall joint knife. Scrape until it’s flat. Apply joint compound to even it out, allow it to dry, and then sand it. Prime and paint. It might get messy, so lay down a tarp or towel.
Yep, . It may be messy, but that’s definitely the easiest solution. Well done.
I was actually thinking about Brazil.
😂😂😂 pointing out someone’s mistake while making a few of your own 😂😂😂
The Brazil flag has a green square, yellow diamond, and blue circle – just like the colors in the image.

I was just mentioning the typos,
I bet everyone got what the “frag” was.
There’s just something about it that makes me feel like kicking a soccer ball around.
Start by priming and then doing a skim coat
So you’re selling your house and only now you’re worried about this and don’t even know what it is? 🤣🤣
Dampen it with water using a mister and then wait a bit before scraping it off. Apply primer and paint. 👍🏼
Haha, that’s definitely the Brazilian flag!
Oh man, my lack of world knowledge is now exposed on Facebook. 🤦 But hey, you learn something new every day!
Is the surface warm to the touch? Looks like it might be around 90 degrees.. 🥴
The evil eye? I actually thought it looked like a Brazilian flag 😅
I also believed that,
Alright, so here’s how you can tackle this issue:
1. Start by using a 5 in 1 tool or a scraper with a hammer to gently knock off the top layers by angling it almost flat against the wall. If that does the trick, put on a mask and use different grades of sandpaper to make it flat.
2. Personally, I’ve found that using a grinder can also be effective. Remember to wear a mask and start small.
3. Once you’ve completed the steps above, you may need to skim coat, match the texture, and then paint over it.
4. In case nothing else works, consider cutting out the sheetrock between the studs and replacing it. Apply tape, mud, texture as needed, and then prime and paint the area.
Brazil is amazing!
