How can I blend the repaired area to match the texture of the plaster ceiling?

We’ve got a plaster ceiling with a section that needs some fixing up. I’ve started sanding it down, but now I’m wondering how to make the repaired spot blend in with the rest of the textured plaster. The first picture shows the fixed area, about 10″ x 4″, and the other two pics are of the undamaged parts of the ceiling. Any tips on how to get them to match?
After patching and sanding the mud twice to smooth it out, you can use a can of spray texture before repainting.
The patch seems quite thick. I recommend using a palm sander as hand sanding will take forever. After that, you can spray with a can of texture. These textures are adjustable, so it’s a good idea to test it on a piece of Sheetrock outside to match it.
I never realized there were options for spray texture on plaster walls. I was only familiar with orange peel and knockdown textures. Thanks for the information. I’ll definitely look into it. And yes, I was planning on using a palm sander to try and fix the mess left by the previous owner.
The original texture was hand-applied in 1/4 – 1/2 circles. Matching it with joint compound might be tough. You could try experimenting though. Sand off what you don’t like and give it another shot. Maybe try using a textured sponge and an actual plaster repair product.
Thanks, ! I never considered using a sponge for application.
