How can I add a bathroom to my garage-converted bedroom on a concrete slab without causing damage to the footer in Corsicana, TX?

Hey there! So I just bought a single-story house with a concrete slab, and the previous owner turned the garage into an extra bedroom. I’m thinking of adding a bathroom to make it a master suite, but I’m worried about cutting into the concrete to run the plumbing, especially the footer. Do you happen to know if it’s possible to cut into the footer? Or maybe you’ve done a similar remodel and have some tips on the best way to go about it? I’m in the Corsicana, Tx area. Thanks for any advice you can offer!
It seems like you’re taking on a project that will require a building permit. You might also need an engineering report for the concrete. Before anything else, have a chat with your plumber. They could help you avoid unnecessary expenses. Local plumbers probably have experience with this type of renovation.
I think because it’s outside the city limits, we might not need as many permits, but I still agree with you. I actually have a plumber coming over soon. I was just curious to hear about how others have handled similar situations.
Here’s a thought – what if you use 2×6’s to elevate the bathroom instead of breaking through the concrete?
We actually considered that! It seems like a more affordable choice. 🤷♂️
I’d love to take a look at a floor plan of your house and find out where the sewer clean out is located before I can give you any advice.
Pump out the drained water.
Opt for a Macerating Toilet with Macerator Pump for an Upflush Toilet System in the basement. The pump unit features additional inlets for a sink and shower drainage. You’ll need an elevated shower or tub.
I’d install a pump station to collect wastewater from the bathroom area and transfer it to the household plumbing system.
