How can I achieve a matching trowel knockdown texture on new Hardie backer walls like the old damaged ones in my kitchen?

So, you know that time I had to redo the kitchen wall because the backsplash took it down with it? Yeah, not fun. But the real challenge was matching up the old textured look with the new material. Surprisingly, I found a solution using a paint roller and some thick joint compound from the hardware store. I even got creative with a drinking glass for some extra detailing. It turned out pretty great, if I do say so myself!

It always looks good with any drywall project, make sure to do your work and then clean up. You might find yourself in the same spot for 10 minutes. What size nap did you use?

Did you use textured hardi backer? 🤔🤐😂

If you weren’t planning on tiling it, you should have just used drywall. Also, in your second picture, there is a huge gap visible. It’s important to do things the right way from the start. You’ll need to tape and mud corners. But hey, it’s your house. I’m sure caulking will do the trick.
