How can I accurately assess moisture levels in my dining room after a water leak, given inconsistent readings from the meter?

In short, I had a water leak from the floor above and it flooded my dining room. We had to take out the drywall and set up some fans. The moisture meter is showing low levels everywhere except for two spots in a bullhead. What’s the best way to figure out if there’s really moisture in those areas or if the meter is just off?

Try testing your meter on an item you know contains moisture and one that doesn’t.

So are you referring to the bulkhead? What exactly is located behind it? When you mention low readings, what range are you considering? Which specific readings are causing concern? Can you identify the material in question? What kind of meter are you currently using? Could you also provide information on the depth gauge of the meter? Is your testing limited to surface (non-invasive) readings? Do you have the necessary pins for the meter? It would be helpful if you could share a photo of the area and indicate where the high readings are located.

Just open it up and take a look. Since you’re already working on drywall, why not check?
