How are you handling the slow progress of your kitchen remodel, especially with unexpected issues like mold and rot in the subfloor?

Our kitchen remodel is making progress, but it’s definitely taking its time. When I started tearing everything out, I discovered some mold and rot under the old flooring, so I had to cut out the affected areas and clean with vinegar. After that, I used a mold primer and Kilz before painting and laying down new flooring. We also had to replace some leaky piping. It’s a bit of a process, but we’re getting there!

Right now, I’m working on sanding and staining the butcher block countertops. We’re holding off on installing the upper cabinets until we finish the ceiling. We’re planning on doing a white shiplap with a couple of wooden accent beams.

We’re really looking forward to getting the new counters and sink in so we can stop washing dishes in the bathtub and get out of our makeshift kitchen in the dining room! It’s a bit of a circus, but we’re making it work! 🤣

Wait, engineered floor joist? That trend began in Wisconsin in the 1980s. Sounds like you stumbled upon quite a situation!

When installing your upper cabinets, it’s helpful to use a ledger board for extra support. Also, be sure to find and mark every stud on the wall!

Hey, do you think there will be a cabinet next to the stove and then another one in the corner, maybe also one to the left of the window? I recommend screwing them all together at the same time, then putting them up as one piece. Remove all the doors and shelves to make it lighter.

Is there a question lurking in this text?

I have a feeling this is going to turn out amazing.
