When looking for panel screws and the specific brand of panel, make sure to consult with your salesperson at electrical supply stores. I carry a variety of panel screws in my work truck.
Rab a screw from the opposite corner and head to Home Depot. Use their “thread guide” to determine the thread type. Purchase another screw and install it.
Hey Tom, you should definitely check out Amazon for a Metric & SAE tread gauge. It’s only $14.97.
Are you serious?
How about putting a large self-tapping screw in there, just make sure there are no wires behind the hole. It’s time for a beer!
Against the law.
These days it’s against the law to breathe.
What you suggested is risky, you probably lack the expertise.
No screws with points.
Bret, relax a bit 😂
Hey, I never claimed to have a license. If you want to waste time messing around with that panel for the next year because you can’t get it to work, go right ahead. I was just trying to offer a safe solution. Have a blessed day.
Is breaking the law! I had no idea we could get in trouble for this, I can’t risk getting a criminal record. Be careful out there, it’s a wild world 😉
Haha, there’s always that one “Jay” messing things up for the rest of us, right?
Hey man, I don’t know about you, but I don’t have time to keep chasing after screws. Seems like this guy has only dealt with panels that are perfectly put together with all the screws intact. Reality can be tough.
Can someone grab me the wire stretcher, please?
Sure thing! Here is the gently rephrased text:
The Murray panel trim covers were originally fastened with #10 wood screws that came with the panel. But if you need to, you can tap new threads to attach a screw and washer for the trim cover.
You might discover that the screw was lost during installation and the hole was never properly threaded. It’s important to remember that in many cases, you need to create the threads for the screws when you first install panels. Otherwise, someone with experience may have already damaged the threads using a self-tapping screw.
Do you really believe that every code is essential? 🤦 If the self-tapper is the same length as the OEM screw, then what’s the issue here, chief?
Can you please elaborate on that, ?
Are you serious, ? Can they actually arrest me for using a self-tapper on a panel cover?
It seems like you’ve never really paid attention to the intricacies of a panel screw.
So that’s your reasoning? I frequently purchase panel screws my friend but when the threading is messed up, I figure out a solution to make it function

Why is a self-tapping screw unsafe when they don’t fit?
Wallen you guys always act all high and mighty like you’ve never used a shirt as makeshift toilet paper! If you’re resourceful and can think of alternative solutions to solve a problem then that’s just being clever
Not given the green light, they bring up a valid point, not a dull end, are you in the electrical field?
The ones you shared a link to at home depot are legal, they have a blunted tip.
Just drill & tap it to a 1/4 20, only a complete💩 would use a self tapped ya goof.
You know what they say – time is money lmao
You can find the screws at Home Depot, they sell them in packs.
Hey , Lowe’s also carries packs of those screws
The screws are designed specifically for the manufacturer.
Is right.
is correct.
Do you want me to swing by and put a screw in it? Lol
I think you can find 10-32 or 1/4-20 screws there, and some might use 10-24. They also have metric options.
On 10/24
You can find them at Home Depot.
Hey , Walmart actually has them too. These 3 sizes are quite common
For replacements, self-tapping tek screws can often be used, just ensure they match the thickness required.
Wes oodrich no
Check out these nut inserts at profast.com.au
Sq D offers the strongest panel screws. So use Sq D screws to secure it. Take it slow. It might be challenging at first. But like a glove, it always fits perfectly.
Just tap it and use whatever screw fits.
Hey, have you checked out Home Depot, Lowe’s, or Menards for panel screws in the electrical section?
You can find them at Home Depot.
I can’t believe it’s just a panel screw! Now I’m starting to get suspicious! 🤣🤣
Use a 2-inch self-tapping screw and get it done, buddy!
💥
Drywall screws are always a reliable option.
Madej just make sure to add a washer on them
Madej I hope you avoid puncturing a wire… and also keep in mind they are not up to code.
Madej incorrect
Any self-tapping screws with the right gauge will do the job.
Feel free to use any type of screw in your impact driver and tighten it with a smile 😁
Home Depot and Lowe’s carry them. You just need to know the brand of the panel. Typically, each brand uses a specific type for all their enclosures. They are usually located near the specialty breakers and ground bars.

I don’t see a store nearby, but that’s one option I haven’t explored yet
Try using a box clamp screw. Check it out!
10 out of 32
Yep, ground screws usually do the job
Did you look in the electrical aisle at Home Depot for panel screws?
Hey , they’re in the aisle.
10 by 32
Try pinging the hardware store
You should drill and tap it. Make sure to get four screws that match.
I’ve found that Lowe’s has the best variety of special screws.
10/32
They are readily available at every Home Depot store nationwide.
They’re called Rack screws, you can get them on Amazon. They’re not bolts because the threads are missing at the beginning.
Check out these Siemens ECTS2 screws for Murray panels on Amazon! reat for DIY electrical projects.
Maybe around 10 out of 32
If you only post a partial picture, don’t be surprised if the results aren’t perfect. We keep a stock of screws for most panel covers.
You can find them in the electrical department at big box stores
This is why I always keep a miscellaneous section on my shelf. Old panel cover screws would definitely be included in that.
I probably have around 50 extra ones 😂😂😂
That doesn’t seem like the correct one at all
Honestly ground screws will work on most panels and they’re not pointed, you just might not need a long one
Home Depot sells them in packs of four.
In my 40 years of experience, I’ve never had an issue with this. Just open your screw box, find a screw, blunt the end, and screw it in.
Amazon has screws designed for electrical panels. I had to order a few to fix some flipper and landlord specials, haha.
Amazon
Remove one of the ones you have and bring it to a hardware store to find a match.
How about 10 out of 24?
Just give it a shot, not too difficult! Seriously!
Nah, it’s just screw science.
I think they are referred to as panel screws. You can find replacements at Home Depot. Just make sure to select the appropriate ones for your panel brand.

I never considered checking home depot.
With 50 years of experience in the trade, every screw is machine threaded. It’s important to learn the proper way to do it. For example, 6/32 and 8/32 indicate the diameter and the number of threads per inch respectively. Avoid using self-tapping screws to force it. Otherwise, you might end up damaging the material.
1/4 20. Another common 1
Mentioned that some Square-D and other panels have cover screws that resemble wood screws rather than machine threads.
#10 machine screw
It’s totally fine to enlarge the hole and use a non-pointed screw instead
Hey, that’s not a factory screw, silly!
