Have you encountered backstabbed outlets and switches while rewiring a house, and how did you address the issue of continuity on a circuit with neutral to hot readings?

I’m in the process of rewiring a whole house and came across another one of these outlets that have been backstabbed. It’s a shame to see this kind of thing nowadays with outlets and switches.
On a different note, I was testing continuity on a circuit and noticed that it was reading neutral to hot while I was in the middle of rewiring. Just something extra I had to deal with.
Why… don’t their bosses clarify this wire here and that there 🤣 they just hire slackers…..I’m always fixing a mix-up
I always had to clean up after the bossman’s favorite group, who were involved in drugs and strip clubs. He would lend them money and then take their paychecks, leaving them with just enough for food…
Looks like the polarity is reversed here.
Looks great
I used to work for an electrical contractor who focused mostly on service jobs. We would occasionally wire a new house, maybe once a month. I remember one time I was finishing up wiring the kitchen receptacles and discovered that three of them were dead ends, which was strange with only two circuits. After tracing everything out, I found that the refrigerator outlet had four 12/2s in a deep box – one feed in and three out. When I brought this to the attention of the project manager (who happened to be the owner’s brother), he insisted that I just push all the wires into the E receptacles with four speedwire terminals. I expressed my concerns about potential failures, especially behind the refrigerator. His response? “We are a service company. This will generate future service work.” I went ahead and followed his instructions. Sure enough, about seven months later, I was sent back to that home due to multiple dead receptacles in the kitchen. The E receptacle behind the refrigerator had indeed failed. The company had to cover the cost of the service call under warranty. So much for promoting future service work…
Can you believe someone actually thinks like that? Let’s hope we never have to come back to a house to fix any issues.
That’s too bad about the mindset of the situation. Over the years, I’ve had to deal with a lot of that nonsense.
$200.00 for a service call and I can fix everything up for you. Hopefully, it won’t require more than just working on this location.

Just plug them in! It doesn’t matter what color, we treat everyone equally here, so black or white makes no difference. Let’s not discriminate!
12 wire stabbed? Wow, that’s an ancient outlet.
Isn’t it crazy nowadays? You only graduated high school 3 years back. Are you comparing the present time to the past? Was it just last week when you mentioned that?
The connectors that come with the jumpers are really top-notch
Those outlets probably cost a dollar or less. Spec grade outlets would have cost $5.00 or more. 100 outlets would increase the cost of a $300,000 house by $400. And the spec grade outlets are back-wired too, but with a screw applying the contact pressure, not a 1/16″ wide strip of Chinese brass.
Connected in series… Haha

Avoid using back stabs, especially with older outlets like this one. The newer ones have screws on the side for tightening.
I’m starting to feel a bit dizzy, but that doesn’t catch me off guard.
In short, our boss thought our team was not fast enough so he brought in his two rocket men to replace the outlets and switches in a 50 unit apartment complex over the weekend. All the outlets looked like the one in your picture lol. A real time saver👍
It’s a shame when you see both the neutral and hot wires connected to the same terminal (direct short)

I notice failures with ‘Stab-Ins’ every day. It’s a lazy practice and it doesn’t work well. Let’s take some pride, people. Vibration and incorrect cut length are the enemies of Stab-ins.

I’ve definitely had to redo my fair share of those connections!
Not too bad, as per UL standards.

You can’t rely on those who stab you in the back
What in the world is happening with this color blind handyman?
Not a fan of those cheap blue outlets. I prefer Decoras. I always rely on the surface area and tension of screws.
It appears that you’re changing the outlets, sir.
‘t forget about reverse polarity plugs too…
