Do you prefer using only the Howards conditioner product on your butcher block, or do you also apply oil beforehand for maintenance?

Spent a lot of time sanding, painting, and filling in holes on my butcherblock countertop. Got the cabinets all renovated, just need to add a few more handles. Almost ready to go! Quick question – for those who use Howards conditioner on their butcherblock, do you just use that or do you oil it first every time? Trying to budget for upkeep on this new home.
Recommendation suggests scheduling maintenance every 2 to 4 weeks.
Yes, I definitely plan on doing this!:) If you use it frequently, do you apply oil every time or just the conditioner?
I’m used to having quartz countertops or plain marble…this is my first time using a butcher block that we use every day.
I would recommend sticking with what you initially did. Take my advice and look into Waterlox on Amazon. Apply a coat and it will last for years. Mine held up for 5 years in a heavily used kitchen. It’s safe for food, not like polyurethane. No need to sand between recoats. Give it a try ..
I believe I changed my mind about waterlox for a specific reason…possibly because of the durable finish. In case I decide to stain it later on, I might reconsider. I really despise sanding 😅
Waterlox offers different stain options. I mean, who wouldn’t want a strong protective layer for their countertops, right? People typically use polyurethane for that. Good luck with your choice!
It had no care previously and would be in better condition if the previous owners hadn’t used it as a cutting board. Keeping up with conditioning is key. Since we’ve taken over, no new damage has occurred. I appreciate the flexibility 🙂
