Electricians always think they’re in charge, but the owners and contractors have different expectations. I mean, I used to dream of being an electrician, but reality hit hard.
Hey ace, that seems like an LED fixture. Sometimes it’s best to position it after the rock is up. These fixtures usually come with a template to help with the cable placement.

If there’s electrical wire in the way during your installation, make sure to work around it. Mess up and the property owner will hold you accountable before the electrician. ‘t get yourself fired over this.

When that happens I don’t really put in a lot of effort to make a clean cut. It’s the drywall guy’s responsibility to cut the holes. If he doesn’t want to do his job, then the finish guy suffers, not the electrician. In this situation, there is clearly a can hidden in the ceiling so it should be an easy fix, but when they bury outlets, that’s a whole different story. It can turn into a big mess. On commercial projects where drywallers are paid per sheet, we used to mark the floor in front of the boxes because we were tired of messing up the walls while searching for buried boxes.

Based on my experience as an electrician, I can say they had to completely redo that ceiling.

Typical illogical union thinking. And then they are surprised.

Nice job on making the hole for the sprinkler.
I hope you’re getting paid for the repair, too.
Howe bringing the facts! Haha
That is the reason we always have a hammer sawz

Sheetrock cannot proceed until inspection is done. If the light is unsecured, the inspection would fail. Sounds like an ego problem to me.
