Do I need to lift the vinyl flooring to redo the baseboards in a room where the carpet was torn up due to a dog?

So, last June we had to rip up the carpet in one room because our dog destroyed it. We quickly put down vinyl flooring without taking off the baseboards. If I decide I want to redo the baseboards, do I need to lift the flooring to do so?
It all comes down to their appearance; adding another piece of quarter round along the bottom could work.
There should be a gap of about 1/4 inch for expansion and contraction purposes. Is the flooring making contact with your baseboards? I’m a bit puzzled by your mention of ‘redoing the baseboards’. What exactly do you mean by that?
Would like to have them replaced, I forgot to mention

So, basically, you just remove them.
Also, when you’re putting in new baseboards. If you notice any gaps, you can look for matching base shoe.
If you prefer no shoe moulding, opt for a thicker baseboard.
Are you referring to sheet vinyl or LVL?

You don’t necessarily have to redo your floors. It’s a straightforward process – remove your current baseboard, install a new one. If there’s a gap, you can add matching shoemold/quarter round or use a primed white molding from Home Depot, then paint it to match the baseboard. If you’re looking to get rid of a molding, consider using a thicker baseboard to cover the gap.
