Do I need to keep pushing through this nightmare of old concrete with rebar, or is there a better tool for the job?

Hey guys, I’m running into some trouble again and could really use your input on this situation. I remember asking for recommendations a few weeks ago. So, my 100+ year old house has 18-inch walls, and I mistakenly thought all the walls were similar to one I worked on before, which had 5 inches of concrete in the center. Turns out, the current wall I’m tackling has 10 inches of concrete with 1 inch rebar in it, and I need to drill a 2 1/2 inch hole through it. I rented a wet coring drill for this tough job, and let me tell you, this concrete is seriously tough. It took me 2 hours just to get through a bit of it, and as soon as I hit the rebar, it felt like hitting a brick wall. I’ve spent 3 hours on it and only made it half an inch further. The drill bit is still cool and doesn’t seem dull, so I’m not sure if I just need to push through with more effort, if the equipment isn’t right, or if I’m doing something wrong. By the way, when I rented the equipment, I made sure to let them know I’d be

As much of a pain as it might be, I wouldn’t recommend starting with the 2-1/2 inch hole. Maybe try starting with a 1-inch hole first. Then move up to the 2-1/2 inch hole.

Might want to consider using a sawzall for the rebar if you have access to one. It’s easier than using a hole saw on rebar.
