Hey there! If I’m looking to paint over my current white satin paint with a blueish white high gloss paint, should I use primer first? Thanks so much!

It’s always a good idea to lightly sand, prime, lightly sand the primer, and then paint

Doesn’t have separate primer and paint. They offer paint primer combinations, but I’m not completely convinced. Just give the walls a good wipe-down after sanding, no need to wash them.

You know, Z Ro, I have a feeling you’re just bored and passing time at this point. Maybe look it up on YouTube?

No

Not if you’re using a high-quality paint with the same base. As long as it’s clean, that 🤍 can act as your primer.

Hey, Z Ro is cool, right?

Hey, Z Ro is pretty cool, right?

Make sure to sand thoroughly. Proper preparation is key to a successful paint job, especially when using a shinier paint that highlights imperfections

You can skip sanding for the first coat, but you still need to sand the old paint’s low sheen to ensure a strong bond. I recommend applying 3 coats. As a retired contractor, I can tell you that you’ll be much happier with the final surface. Shiny paint is thinner and offers less coverage. Three coats are more washable without losing the shine.

#220 grit sand walls and trim. Wipe down with water and a rag to remove the dust. Caulk where necessary. After the caulk dries, paint. You can add some wall color to the primer, or have your primer tinted to match the wall color. Either way will make changing the color easier. Lightly sand between coats. Apply 3 coats for better coverage and to avoid “ghost shadows”. Wait a couple of days between coats since paints dry at different rates. Wait a couple of weeks before doing the trim. If you use tape, opt for the green frog tape; the blue one is not as good. Remove the tape as soon as you finish painting.

No, a satin finish isn’t glossy enough for paint to adhere well. I have over 15 years of experience in the paint industry.
